Cellar Spiders
Cellar spiders (often mistaken for 'daddy longlegs') are very common in both the US and Canada. They prefer to live in dark, damp places like caves, rock piles, basements, and cellars.
The bodies of cellar spiders are only about 0.08-0.39 of an inch in length but their legs may be up to about 2 inches. Their color ranges from pale yellow to light brown and gray.
Cellar spiders live for about two years. The mothers will lay about three egg sacs in their lifetime, each containing anywhere from 10 to 60 eggs.
Though cellar spiders don't bite people or pets, they can be considered a nuisance. To prevent cellar spiders from entering your home it is important to inspect any window and door screens for holes, reduce clutter around the foundation, and lower humidity levels in problem areas.
